3. Black Panther Will Be Nominated For Best Picture
Ever since Black Panther scored some of the strongest reviews in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there's been feverish debate about whether or not the superhero movie can be the first in history to be nominated for Best Picture.
The film's ludicrous $1 billion box office haul makes it a tough contender to ignore, especially in an expanded Best Picture field following The Dark Knight being famously snubbed for a nomination back in 2009.
While it's important to remember that Wonder Woman's Best Picture campaign last year quickly fizzled out, Black Panther is a generally better-crafted film overall, and it's easy to imagine the film's passionate cheerleaders championing it all the way to the finish line.
Plus, the film's more subversive elements should help it connect with those who typically rubbish comic book films. It hasn't got a hope in hell of winning the award, but in this case the nomination will very much be the win, and it's most certainly going to happen.
