Adam McKay's upcoming political drama Backseat stars Christian Bale and Amy Adams as Dick Cheney and Lynne Cheney respectively, and is sure to earn plenty of praise for not only its performances but the insane makeup effects used to render the actors virtually unrecognisable.
Granted, in Bale's case he also gained a ton of weight and physically transformed himself, but considering how convincingly the makeup has accentuated his own work, especially when playing an older Cheney, there's no way Backseat won't get at least a nomination.
Darkest Hour winning the Best Makeup and Hairstyling Oscar is proof perfect of how the Academy loves elaborate transformations, and with the hairstyling department also needing to get Lynne Cheney's giant coiffure right, it's got all its bases covered.
