IMDb: 7.5

Cloud Atlas is an incredible experience that should be regarded as a modern classic, not as a polarizing box office bomb. An enormously ambitious movie that puts together six narratives and has them unfolding simultaneously in six different historical times, Cloud Atlas is undeniably difficult and pretentious but it's still great.

The 7.5 rating, which moves Cloud Atlas close to IMDb Top 250 territory, is far more appropriate. Filled with great performances, brilliant metaphors, glorious visuals and amazing storytelling, Cloud Atlas is pretty much the 21st century's unacknowledged masterpiece.

It is confusing and exhausting, but for patient viewers this should prove one of the most rewarding and moving film experiences in recent memory. Another good thing here is that, despite its artiness, it is also an action-packed, emotional and occasionally hilarious film so it's very enjoyable as well as thought-provoking.

Given how fantastic the movie really is, its status as a polarizing film really doesn't make much sense. After all, critics often love arty films such as this. Still, at least IMDb voters gave Cloud Atlas the credit it deserves.

Should Be Rated: 80%-90%
