15 Historical Figures Who Deserve A Movie (And Who Should Play Them)

14. Ludwig Van Beethoven

One of the most recognizable names in the world of music, Beethoven composed some of the most famous musical works of all time and in addition was a fairly fascinating person. Later in his life he became totally deaf but still continued to write music of breathtaking quality. He was perpetually in love with women who were in a higher class of society then he was,so he could not possibly enter into a relationship with them, which contributed to his derision for class hierarchy. He was by most accounts a commanding personality and was one of the first artists to view his work as "art" and not a means of income. This "art for art's sake" approach would be a good basis for a film adaption of him as he could be portrayed almost as a rebel against the restraints of his time. The film would be almost a spiritual sequel to Amadeus as they both would portray composers who were head and shoulders above their contemporaries and thus were not quite recognized for their abilities at the time. There was a 1994 film about Beethoven titled Immortal Beloved starring Gary Oldman but it was not particularly well received, and Beethoven is overdue for a film adaption that properly shows off his personality and abilities. Casting Choice: Benedict Cumberbatch has already played an overpowering intellect in Sherlock and while he doesn't look too much like Beethoven he'd still be an excellent fit.
