Release Date: September 18 (US, Limited), October 2 (US, Wide), October 9 (UK) The Hype: Director Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners, Enemy) re-teams with the world's greatest cinematographer, Roger Deakins (Fargo, Skyfall), for a gritty, grim thriller about an FBI agent (Emily Blunt) who joins a task force to bring down a drug lord at the U.S.-Mexican border. Ever since its Cannes premiere back in May, reviews have been strong, and with a cast including Benicio Del Toro, Josh Brolin, Jon Bernthal and Victor Garber, is it really all that surprising? How Well Will It Do?: Sicario is already sitting at 87% on Rotten Tomatoes from festival reviews, so it's looking unlikely to sink below 80%, though the box office could really go either way, given the lack of bonafide A-list movie stars and challenging subject matter. Oscars, on the other hand, are certainly a possibility, particularly for the script and Deakins' cinematography, which just might scoop him his 13th Oscar nomination (and hopefully his first, long-deserved win).
