15. Mewtwo Returns - Detective Pikachu

In 2019, the Pokemon franchise expanded into the live action movie world with Detective Pikachu with Ryan Reynolds voicing the titular character. While the story and human characters left something to be desired, the animation, and pure nostalgia from seeing the most realistic pocket monsters on screen yet was wonderful.

None more so than Mewtwo. Just about no one would have expected the legendary Pokémon to make an appearance in this movie until the twisty reveal was made in the trailer. Ever since Pokémon the Movie, and the way it was restricted only to Pokémon champions in Red and Blue, Mewtwo was one of the original favourites.

As one of the most powerful Pokémon in the entire universe, Mewtwo was literally a legend, and its appearance in Detective Pikachu brought all those feelings back in a wave of wonderful nostalgia.
