15 Most Exciting Movies Coming In February 2020

8. The Invisible Man - February 28

The Invisible Man is the latest re-imagining of the H.G Wells novel to hit theatres. Previous versions of the narrative have been straightforward adaptations (the Boris Karloff film) or used the material as a jumping-off point to explore more controversial and violent ideas (Paul Verhoeven’s divisive Hollow Man) and Leigh Whannell’s take looks to be a symbiosis of the two.

Whannell’s previous directorial effort Upgrade was a viscerally entertaining and bloodthirsty exploration of individuality, a film that managed to explore profound ideas of the human condition while also providing masterful genre thrills. His version of The Invisible Man looks to be continuing in that trend, with the haunting thrills of having something you can’t see pursuing you contrasted against a narrative of an abuser’s grasp on a victim’s mental health.

Elisabeth Moss plays a woman whose ex-boyfriend dies of an apparent suicide. He abused her when they were together and even now that he’s dead, his presence still lingers on within her life.

Whannell’s expertise seemingly guarantees that the film will be an effective horror experience, but the real point of intrigue is Moss, who has been on the run of her career as of late. If anyone can cement this film as genuinely incredible, it’s her.
