15 Most Heart-Wrenching Moments In MCU History
3. Peggy's Death (And Dance) - Captain America: Civil War
Civil War is a film with dozens of heart-breaking moments, but one of the worst comes early in the film when Steve realizes Peggy Carter has died. And then is immediately at her funeral.
First it's heart-wrenching because removing Haley Atwell from your film makes it an entire letter score less good. The First Avenger is a C-movie at best, and her mere presence elevates it. It's also tragic because it happens off-camera. And because it reveals that Steve's been necking his old girl's grand-niece. And because it has one of the most annoying and stilted monologues in the history of time. George Bernard Shaw, seeing this film, hearing this monologue, would've become so incensed he'd go home and write Pygmalion just to prove something uglier could exist.
But it's also tragic because it's Steve's last connection to home. And the woman he could've loved is now truly forever gone. He's so strong, and all he does is fail, over and over again. It's heart-breaking. And he wasn't even there for her when she died, because he was arguing about superhero stuff.
But then... in Endgame, he finally returns, and gets his last dance.
