15 Most Offensive Movie Characters

By Jack Pooley /

14. Long Duk Dong (Gedde Watanabe) - Sixteen Candles

The Character: The foreign exchange student invited into protagonist Sam's (Molly Ringwald) home by her grandparents, a source of comic relief throughout the film. Why He's Offensive: Where to begin? The name is a lazy grab for a laugh, the film constantly mocks his poor English, attempts to acclimate to American culture ("What's happenin', hot stuff?"), lightweight drinking skills and odd romance with an oversized female jock. Oh, and every time he shows up in the movie, a gong noise plays out, in case you didn't remember he was Asian or something. Does He Ruin The Movie?: Definitely not. Sixteen Candles is still a classic John Hughes movie and a lot of fun, though it's hard not to cringe every time "The Donger" appears on screen, because he's a painfully dated aspect of an otherwise entertaining high school comedy.
