5. The Dead Cop - Lights Out

Lights Out wasn't a critical triumph by any means, but it was a solid, effective horror taking a fairly straight forward concept (the fear of the dark) and delivering on the scares. Sure, the ending was pretty silly and it wasn't the most sympathetic presentation of mental health issues, but it certainly had its moments.

It also delivered a great horror movie death scene when the two cannon fodder cops turned up to "save the day" and were hilariously killed off immediately. That shot of the female officer with her eyes clawed out of her head before she toppled over dead was as haunting as it was inevitable, and it definitely deserves reliving in still form.
