15 Most Terrifying Horror Film Moments Of The Decade (So Far)

2. Bagul On The Computer (Sinister)

Throughout the 2010s, we've seen the rise of technology driven scares in horror movies. Just like Poltergeist played with TV static in the '80s, it was time for films to use elements of modern life like laptops and smart phones to give viewers nightmares. One of the most clever of these can be found in the 2012 Scott Derickson film Sinister.

In this scene, Ellis had been going through a video where Mr. Boogie could be seen in the background, and so he pulled it up on Quicktime so he could zoom in. He gets on the phone right after, all the while the video is still paused on his computer in the background, much like anyone might leave a video paused on their desktop. Everyone knows how Quicktime functions and how watching videos on computers works, so it's ridiculously terrifying when suddenly, Bagul's face turns.

You can still see the play button on the screen, and you'll notice that it's not as if the video started playing again by itself. We're looking at a still image here, and yet somehow, it's able to move. Though some music accompanies the moment, it's not like it's a massive jump scare. It's just another really spooky idea that gets in your head: that any picture you're looking at online could suddenly come alive and stare right into your soul.
