Another Tony Scott helmed effort, 1998's Enemy of the State is a necessary corrective to the pro-CIA Spy Games as its story concerns a crew of corrupt NSA agents plotting to murder an American politician and frame someone else.

Much more realistic, historically speaking.

Featuring a young Will Smith as the poor sap who ends up accidentally in possession of the tape featuring their unintentional confession, this propulsive slice of action cinema pairs him with a curmudgeonly old Gene Hackman and throws countless sensational set pieces at the pair.

Rife with explosions, car chases, and assorted spy movie thrills, this one is just a classic slice of nineties action with an additional touch of "don't trust the NSA" thrown in for flavour.
