4. Grown Man Swallows Heart - Sideways
Miles and Jack are celebrating Jack's upcoming wedding by indulging in the various aspects of wine country in California, which apparently includes a lot of women. Jack (Thomas Haden Church) can't keep his pants unzipped despite the fact he's romantically involved, while Miles juggles the prospects of a new love while still struggling over a broken marriage that happened years earlier due to an affair. Fast forward to Jack's wedding: Miles (Paul Giamatti) inevitably comes across his ex-wife, whom he clearly hasn't gotten over yet. She introduces him to her fiancé and then subtlety slaps him with the news that she is pregnant. Mile's reaction to this conveys the pure anguish his character is feeling in that moment, feigning congratulations while taking a hard. We can't help but feel for him as he take a solid blow to his manhood.
