Quentin Tarantino is known for creatively portraying graphic violence. The ear-slicing in Reservoir Dogs, and the auto wreckage in Death Proof, are but a couple of the best-known examples. However, it's the shotgun castration scene of Zed (Peter Greene) by Marcellus Wallace (Ving Rhames) in Pulp Fiction that earns its place on this list. Butch Coolidge (Bruce Willis) runs into a pawn shop while being chased by Marcellus. As they continue to brawl inside, the store proprietor knocks them both out with the butt of his shotgun. They wake to find themselves bound and gagged and Marcellus is taken to another room to be raped. Butch unties himself when left alone and is on his way out the door when he has a change of heart and returns to rescue Marcellus. After Butch disposes of the first redneck rapist, Marcellus emerges from the shadows behind him to deliver a shotgun blast to the Zed's crotchal region. Butch and Marcellus come to an agreement to let their differences be resolved, as Zed and his shredded boys await a less promising future.
