The Buzz: Clint Eastwood directs a biopic of the most lethal sniper in American military history, Chris Kyle (Bradley Cooper), who was murdered on a shooting range in early 2013. Oscar Predictions: The movie is bypassing the festival circuit, so there won't be any formal reviews for a few months, but it's safe to say that with Eastwood's awards-friendly track record, nominations are possible in Best Picture, Best Director (Eastwood), Best Actor (Cooper), Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, and Best Film Editing. Still, given the fact a trailer has yet to be released, the buzz surrounding the film is incredibly muted for now, and Eastwood can be incredibly hit-and-miss as a director, so it's entirely possible American Sniper will simply be a decent film that does nothing at the awards table.
