15 Predictions For 2014 Movies Everybody Got Wrong

By Jack Pooley /

11. 22 Jump Street Will Be A Totally Pointless Sequel

The Prediction: Even with Phil Lord and Chris Miller returning to direct this sequel, isn't it just going to be a lame retread of a project that never should have worked in the first place? The Reality: Lord and Miller were several steps ahead of everyone, however, because 22 Jump Street tackles its own sense of redundancy head-on through a series of meta-gags that beg the question: how do you make a sequel that lives up to the original? The entire movie is pretty much one long jab at how most movie sequels suck, and in that stead, the movie actually makes itself feel relevant despite basically repeating the same "infiltrate the dealer, find the supplier" storyline of the first film. It doesn't hurt that Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum's bromantic chemistry is even stronger than before, Ice Cube gets a significantly meatier role (and the funniest scene in the entire movie), and the end credits sequence is a thing of demented beauty. Believe it or not, bring on 23 Jump Street.
