7. The Fate Of Killmonger's Mother Is Subtly Hinted At - Black Panther

One of the burning questions coming away from Black Panther was the fate of Erik Killmonger's (Michael B. Jordan) mother, who is briefly mentioned as an American woman who N’Jobu (Sterling K Brown) fell in love with, leading to Erik's birth.

Ryan Coogler revealed on the film's director's commentary release that the key lies in the early discussion between N’Jobu and a young Zuri (Denzel Whitaker).

It's never made clear, but according to Coogler, the pair were plotting to break Erik's mother out of jail, but because circumstances ensured that never happened, she passed away in jail and Erik grew up without even a single parent.

As if Killmonger's life story wasn't heart-wrenching enough, this makes him even more sympathetic.
