Why It Should Suck: Since when have any of the Transformers movies (other than the first, arguably) actually been any good? Michael Bay may not be directing this time around, but he's still serving as producer, so could end up dictating a tone that's disappointingly consistent with the previous films.

Plus, the screenplay was penned by Christina Hodson, who was previously responsible for dumpster fires Shut In and Unforgettable. Oof.

Why It Might Be Awesome: The major tick in the win column for this movie is Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings) directing, and on a more "modest" $102 million budget no less (for the standards of the series, anyway).

This should hopefully flatten out the goofier instincts of Bay's movies while also preventing things from getting too bloated or overblown.

Plus, the first trailer suggests the tone's going to be decidedly cleaner and more kid-friendly than before, focusing on the sweet "girl and her dog" relationship between Hailee Steinfeld's protagonist and Bumblebee.
