Following Smithers' death, the movie's next chapter begins, revolving around the unseen character who poisoned the coffee. This is duly explained by a narrator, and any Tarantino fan worth their salt no doubt caught this one in a heartbeat: it's Tarantino himself, who appears twice in rather distracting and heavy-handed fashion. Apparently QT didn't learn much from how terrible his cameo was in Django Unchained: at least there wasn't a terrible Australian accent this time, but still, his voice isn't exactly incredible for narration, and it felt like what a filmmaker might do if they ran short of time or somehow couldn't find anyone else to narrate it. I mean, couldn't Harvey Keitel have done this over the phone in like half an hour or something?
