14. Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them Has A Flawed Story

The first Fantastic Beasts film is a very nice and enjoyable movie with a great cast, wonderful visuals, a really warm tone and a great ending scene, but it does have quite a flawed story.

It's not a very well-structured film - for example, the plot-line involving Creedence (Ezra Miller) feels shoe-horned in - and it lacks in character development as well, while much of the film is also overly low-stakes.

This can probably be chalked down to JK Rowling's lack of experience as a screenwriter. Screenwriting is an incredibly different medium to novel writing, and judging by both of the Fantastic Beasts films, she hasn't quite mastered the discipline yet. It's good to hear that Steve Kloves, who has written many of the Harry Potter films, is coming in to help her on the third film.

You can definitely have a great time with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, but these issues with the story are something viewers will have to accept in order to fully enjoy it.
