As it happens, Furious 7 will be the first film in the series since Tokyo Drift that won't be directed by Justin Lin. Whilst the series began with Rob Cohen at the helm, and 2 Fast 2 Furious was the work of John Singleton, it's Lin that turned the series into the bonkers, inter-connected action behemoth it is today. Furious 7, meanwhile, will be directed by Insidious director James Wan. So expect...jump scares? Lin had a lot of practice before he got handed the reins to The Fast And The Furious series, having directed some of the more action-packed episodes of the pop-culture spoofing sitcom Community, but really made his name off the back of 2002 crime drama Better Luck Tomorrow. Loosely based on the real-life murder of Stuart Tay by a bunch of over-achieving Asian-American Orange County students who entered the criminal underworld for fun, Better Luck Tomorrow included Fast And Furious star Sung Kang in its cast. As a character called Han. Who likes to steal cars. Yeah, basically this was an early version of the Han introduced in Tokyo Drift. He has the same car and everything!
