Yes, along with the tradition of the Oscars having an In Memoriam segment, there's the perennial backlash against Hollywood talents who, for one reason or another, didn't make the cut.

Most egregious was the exclusion of comedy legend Garry Shandling, while legendary actor and Oscar nominee Robert Vaughn and the inimitable Doris Roberts were also conspicuously absent.
Hell, if Bill Paxton, who died only a day before the ceremony, can get at least name-dropped, it's pretty embarrassing that these three were excluded. And in a 4-hour ceremony full of filler, a time constraints excuse just isn't good enough.
