20 Absolutely Insufferable Film Characters Who Didn't Deserve THAT

19. Final Destination - Valerie Lewton

Out of the seven people saved from death in this early 2000s horror classic, Valerie 'Val' Lewton (Kirsten Cloke) was definitely one of the least likable ones. To be fair to this high school teacher, anyone would suffer from terrible survivor's guilt after dodging the crash that killed many of her students, but the way she was such a jerk to Alex (Devon Sawa), whose premonition saved her, rubbed a lot of viewers the wrong way. He saved your life; show some gratitude.

Perhaps the filmmakers were anticipating this reaction when they gave Lewton the most drawn-out and brutal death of the whole movie? Well, regardless, she certainly went through one hell of a traumatic demise. Her computer exploded, and a shard went into her throat... then her house was set on fire... then a kitchen knife impaled her... then one last explosion sent a chair toppling over and pushing the knife deeper in, finally putting her out of her misery. At that point, she was probably wishing she'd died on the plane instead. It would've been much quicker. 

Even if she was a bit of a jerk, this was definitely overkill. Then again, this franchise's personification of Death has always been arbitrary in regards to who gets the worst demises, and being nice doesn't always spare you a painful exit - just ask Ashley and Ashlyn from Final Destination 3.
