After giving Kate Winslet her big-screen debut in Heavenly Creatures back in 1994, Peter Jackson sought to reunite with the incredibly talented actress by offering her the role of Eowyn in The Lord Of The Rings. While she was originally interested, New Line executive Mike De Luca revealed in August 1999 that she had declined the role due to the lengthy commitment required for such a production. Another possible reason is that Winslet was unwilling to sign on to another big-budget studio flick after the hysteria that followed in the wake of the cultural phenomenon that was Titanic, and a glance at her filmography shows a conscious effort to stay away from blockbuster fare, with the actress going a full 17 years without appearing in an overly-commercial movie (she recently took a supporting role in the Divergent franchise).
