20 Actors Who Just Gave Their Best Performance Ever
4. Judy Greer - Eric LaRue
Judy Greer might well be one of the most underrated actors of her generation, because her enviable filmography of more than 150 credits - typically supporting roles across TV and film - doesn't do justice to her obvious potential as a lead performer.
But Greer was cast as the central character in Michael Shannon's recent directorial debut Eric LaRue, where she plays Janice, a mother whose teen son killed three classmates in a school shooting.
It's a tough, tricky part, as Janice reckons with her own role in raising her killer son, and how much responsibility - if any - she should shoulder for his actions.
In stark contrast to the many plucky, supportive wives and mothers Greer has played on-screen over the decades, here she gets to give a too-rare portrayal of those same roles in crisis, and it's all the proof the world needs - if it somehow still does - that Greer is a fiercely underappreciated dramatic performer.
