20 Amazing Movie Plot Twists That Never Get Talked About
2. The Man Is Ingrid's Son - Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die
And now for the most recent entry on this list, we have Gore Verbinski's deliriously entertaining sci-fi comedy Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die.
Sam Rockwell stars as an unnamed man from the future who travels back in time to a Los Angeles diner where he seeks out individuals to help him defeat a rogue AI.
One of the folks who agrees to tag along is young, directionless drifter Ingrid (Haley Lu Richardson), who notably has a bizarre allergic reaction to technology and especially Wi-Fi. And in the third act, we learn a surprising truth: a vision from the AI antagonist reveals that Ingrid is actually the mother of the man from the future, the very mother who is fated to be killed by an AI drone when her son is a child.
It's a twist that seems totally obvious in retrospect, but Verbinski did a great job of steering the audience just away enough without the reveal feeling like it came wildly out of nowhere.
