Throughout the 1980s, the ionic energy-suffused Simon Williams/Wonder Man seemed to be a fixture in one Avengers comic or another, usually on the west coast side of things. With strength as great as Thor and an invulnerable skin, Wonder Man was always a useful feature on any team. He appeared as early as the ninth issue of the first Avengers comic series, way back in 1964, but didn't become a regular until 1979 due to a silly dispute with DC over his name being too similar to Wonder Woman's. Why he won't be in the Avengers movies: In the comics, Wonder Man provides the brain print used to create the Vision, but that plot has already played out in the movies without any sign of Mr. Williams. Movie makers could still mine Wonder Man's very first storyline of a bad guy infiltrating the Avengers for inspiration, but the whole shtick of villains turning into Avengers was just done in Age of Ultron with the Maximoff twins. And it has to be said, as long as Thor's around, another strong man is surplus to requirements.
