20 Awesome 2015 Movies You Might've Missed

The Plot: Based on Aristophanes' classic Greek play Lysistrata, the eponymous character (Teyonah Parris) leads a charge of women in violence-riddled Chicago as they withhold sex from their partners in an attempt to stem the tide of gun crime in the city. Why It's Awesome: Spike Lee delivers his most insane and enjoyable film in years, a hilarious, bonkers musical which makes the most of a diverse cast (ranging from Samuel L. Jackson to...Nick Cannon) and sees Parris turn in a star-making performance for sure. Lee, as ever, is a loud political voice and clearly has pressing issues on his mind, but where many of his films often miss the point or are simply too obnoxious, Chi-Raq finds chest-thumping joy in delivering its message through satire rather than relentless monologues. If nothing else, it's a testament to how powerful and cathartic a venom-filled call for change truly can be, one that we all need to pay attention to.
