Critics have called Ahmed's performance the best work of his career, in a film which reportedly shines a sensitive light on the deaf community, who are of course so criminally under-served by cinema as a whole.

If you're craving an affecting, unique drama which skirts the usual sappy, awards-baiting cliches, this evocative character study sounds like just the ticket. Could Ahmed be Oscar-bound? Wait and see.

Sound of Metal hits Amazon Prime on December 4th.
