If you love your movies, there's a good chance you also love sniffing out Easter eggs like a nerdy, obsessive truffle pig, because just about every big-budget blockbuster hitting cinemas these days comes jam-packed with hidden references, nods and in-jokes that only the most clued-up, switched-on fans will ever notice.

It goes without saying that the likes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Star Wars franchise are responsible for many of 2017's best Easter eggs, but there were some bangers found elsewhere too, such as in lower-budget movies from filmmakers famous for their attention-to-detail, not to mention one of the year's most unexpected rags-to-riches box office hits.

There's nothing quite like an Easter egg that makes you perk up, laugh out loud or even raise your eyebrows in absolute shock, and in that regard, these 20 fantastic hidden nods definitely had everyone covered. Commit them to memory now so you can impress your friends with them on movie nights (and pretend you caught them all by yourself)...

20. Miles Morales - Spider-Man: Homecoming

Marvel Studios

After criminal Aaron Davis (Donald Glover) is subdued and interrogated by Spider-Man (Tom Holland), Davis mentions that he wants the neighbourhood to be safe because he's got a young nephew.

Comic book fans will know that Davis, who also goes by the name the Prowler, is the uncle of Miles Morales, who is of course the popular Ultimates version of Spider-Man, who Glover himself has voiced in the past.

Considering how disappointed some fans were at Miles not being included in the MCU, this was a fun little hint at his potential future inclusion. There's also a deleted scene where Davis calls Miles up and tells him he's going to be late (due to being caught in Spidey's webbing).
