20. Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody)
Though Bohemian Rhapsody was far from a great movie, there was near-universal acclaim for Rami Malek's startlingly believable performance as Queen frontman Freddie Mercury.
Despite not bearing much of a natural resemblance to the man, Malek does a remarkable job embodying Mercury's physical mannerisms, his voice and, thanks to some great makeup and costumes, his look also.
It's truly a testament to the actor's work that he may end up with a Best Actor Oscar nomination despite the script and direction being so utterly generic and formulaic.
But had those departments measured up to his performance, he could've been an Oscar front-runner rather than an inevitable bridesmaid.
Even with such broad material, Malek knocks it out of the park, doing both himself and the pop icon a terrific service.
