The Academy shouldn't forget about Taron Egerton, who gave one of the strongest performances of the first half of 2019 as Elton John in Dexter Fletcher's fantastically creative musical biopic Rocketman.

In many ways the anti-Bohemian Rhapsody, Rocketman sees Egerton not only kitted out to resemble the legendary musician, but also performing all the singing himself.
It was a risk, but Egerton's performance throughout is a feat of jaw-dropping chameleonism, nailing the look and the voice but most importantly capturing the soul of the man.

It'll be a travesty if he doesn't receive a Best Actor Oscar nod, but given how competitive the year is and how early in the year his brilliant work came, his odds sadly aren't looking great.
