2. Killers Of The Flower Moon
With his latest film, Killers of the Flower Moon, Martin Scorsese has delivered one of the finest achievements of his long and eminent career, as well as his most emotionally devastating, anchored by haunting imagery, piercing historical accuracy and a host of compelling performances.
Set in the 1920s and focussed on a series of murders committed against the Osage Nation by opportunistic crime boss William Hale (Robert De Niro) in order to claim their oil-rich land, the galvanising drama primarily focusses on Leonardo DiCaprio's snivelling war veteran and his embattled Osage wife, Mollie (Lily Gladstone).
Capturing the ugly horror and uncertainty of a time when Osage lives were lost an extreme rate to little attention, Killers Of The Flowers Moon finds Scorsese at his most unflinchingly confrontational, crafting a tale of mortality, grief and inexplicable injustice that ends with his single most heartbreaking finale.
