Ignore all that silly controversy about whether or not Leonardo DiCaprio is "raped" by a bear in The Revenant, and you still get one of the year's most disturbing movie scenes. As Hugh Glass (DiCaprio) is hunting out in the woods, he is attacked by a mother grizzly bear as she instinctively protects her two cubs. The bear violently mauls him, shaking him around, clawing flesh out of his back and, when he plays dead, resting a giant paw on top of his head. The bear appears to lose interest, and Glass tries to crawl away, but as it returns, he fires a shotgun shell at it, enraging it, as it slashes his throat with its claws and continues mauling him. In a last ditch effort to stay alive, Glass then pulls out a knife and repeatedly stabs the bear, causing them both to slide down a hill, and the dying bear to land on top of him, before which he's finally rescued. It's an incredible scene both for the technical skill involved (it's a single take scene with a 100% CGI bear) and DiCaprio's jaw-dropping performance. If he wins the Oscar, this'll probably be the scene everyone talks about as having won it for him.
