And yes, it is brilliant.

Waterworld might well be the most misunderstood film in the history of blockbusters: yes it was obscenely expensive and its commitment to spectacle was probably a bit vulgar, but it still stands up as a timeless-feeling Mad Max sibling.

It was showy and unsubtle, but that doesn't mean the dystopian fantasy should be considered a disaster by any means. Quite the opposite in fact.
