20 Comic Book Movies You Must See Before You Die

14. Blade (1998)

Blade has a tendency to get lost amongst the countless other comic book adaptations, but it's a credit to this underrated Marvel movie that it was made in 1998 and still holds up today. Indeed, it's in need of something of a reprisal perhaps (or maybe a reboot), given that it paved the way for countless comic book movies that wanted to play things on the dark side. Blade stars Wesley Snipes, of course, back at a time when he hadn't quite gone over the edge and was still capable of putting in a fairly decent performance. The plot concerns vampire a*shole Deacon Frost (Stephen Dorff), who - quite typically - has it in for human beings, and our eponymous hero - who is half-man, half vampire - and his attempts to thwart him. It's safe to say that Blade is far from the perfect movie, and there are noticeable flaws and script problems throughout. Despite that, though, the picture remains so darn entertaining from beginning to end that it's hard to care, as we move through one brilliant set-piece to another. And it is the brilliant fight scenes that makes this movie worthwhile.
