Speaking of sustained, single shot action sequences which track their way through carnage, and it's impossible to leave out this adrenaline-pumping shot from the explosive finale to John Woo's Hard Boiled.

A seminal action film (arguably one of the best ever made), this tracking shot apparently wasn't even thought up until well into the production and was conceived as Woo didn't have time for complex camera set-ups. Take note of the brief respite from the shooting in the elevator - out of shot the crew were frantically redressing the set ready for them to emerge and continue shooting.
