Directed by Narciso Ibanez Serrador, Who Can Kill a Child? is nightmarish stuff. Tom and Evelyn are on an island enjoying the last days of freedom before their baby is born. All around them they see grim faced children and not an adult in sight. They learn that the children killed all of the adults and can pass on their murderous intent to any other child by simply looking them in the eye. Tom is eventually forced into killing one of the children and poor Evelyn dies as her unborn child turns murderous from exposure to the children. Tom tries to get on a boat to escape the brats. He showers them with a machine gun just as the Spanish police are arriving. The police think he is cold bloodily killing kiddies so they shoot him dead. The children then shoot the police dead and we see a gang of them in a boat heading for the mainland... A highly controversial subject matter - both children killing and being killed - may have prevented Who Can Kill A Child? taking the place in the canon of cult horror films where it truly belongs. The film has an expert director, highly competent lead actor and actress, and it makes terrific use of its creepy island setting. It is not hard to see from this film where Stephen King got his inspiration for Children of the Corn. Who Can Kill a Child? is a much better and creepier film than the Children of the Corn film adaptation. It is a piece of Euro Horror genius.
