20 Failed Movie Plans That'll Ruin Your Day

2. David Lynch's The Saliva Bubble Comedy

Picture it if you can: David Lynch and Mark Frost, three years before co-writing Twin Peaks and changing TV forever, penned a script for an absurdist comedy called One Saliva Bubble, which was set to star comedy legends Martin Short and Steve Martin in the lead roles.

The film had a brilliant premise, following a town besieged by a haywire government project that causes all its residents to uncontrollably switch bodies with each other, with lead characters such as an international assassin, a crazy scientist, a troupe of acrobats, and a miserable car salesmen. Did I mention it would star Martin Short and Steve Martin?

In a maddening case of production delays, though, One Saliva Bubble never came to be. The studio who bought the rights to Lynch and Frost's script went bankrupt, and the deal struck with their purchase meant the writers couldn't set the project up elsewhere.

A absurd comedy starring two of our funniest funnymen, directed by one of the most creatively bold filmmakers of all time, would surely have been a treat. This one stings.
