20 Failed Movie Plans That'll Ruin Your Day

19. Luca Guadagnino's Bold Blood on the Tracks Adaptation

Fresh off the success of his heartbreaking Call Me By Your Name adaptation, the great Luca Guadagnino set his sights on another kind of adaptation: an attempt to translate Bob Dylan's iconic Blood on the Tracks album to the big screen.

There's numerous reasons to be excited about this idea, not least the fact that Guadagnino has - since this particular project fell through due to budget constraints shortly after its 2018 announcement - become one of our most consistently daring and devastating chroniclers of romantic pain, from Bones & All to Queer, and Challengers to I Am Love.

Add to the director's brilliant track record and beautiful films the visceral nature of Dylan's most personal record, an album written in the aftermath of the singer's break-up with his then-wife Sara, and what we've been deprived of is surely a drama unlike any other, a stylishly soulful exploration of loss and closure from two great artists far removed from the other.

Also, just the thought of adapting an album to the screen is something to get excited about, surely. Way to think outside the box, Luca.
