20 Failed Movie Plans That'll Ruin Your Day

16. Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant Sequel

In 2012, the great Ridley Scott shocked audiences when he returned to the Alien franchise he set in motion, with the alien-less prequel flick Prometheus.

A dark, spiritual thriller anchored by a stunning cast and excellent horror set pieces, Prometheus proved a big success, and only the first chapter in a new trilogy Scott had planned for his most famous franchise. A sequel quickly followed in Alien: Covenant, which was also a major hit, and ended with a chilling cliffhanger desperate for resolve.

Unfortunately, the resolution never came, as no further movies were ever commissioned. Anyone hoping to see the fate of Michael Fassbender's chilling android villain David were forced to settle into an eternal wait with no payoff.

Despite his desire to keep making Alien movies, Disney acquired ownership of 20th Century Fox in 2019 and threw the director's plans in the trash, stating they wanted to craft fresh stories going forward. This may have led us to the brilliant Alien: Romulus, but who knows what wonderfully twisted tricks Scott had left up his sleeve.
