20 Failed Movie Plans That'll Ruin Your Day

13. The (Real) Return of Scream's Stu Macher

Consider this a spoiler warning for the very bad, very silly Scream 7, arguably the only film in the franchise to entirely drop the ball.

You see, Scream 7 commits a cardinal sin by resurrecting a fan favourite villain - Matthew Lillard's royally messed-up Stu Macher - as an AI conjured up by the new film's Ghostfaces. It's a dirty, cheap trick that doesn't only fail narratively and morally, but also serves as an aggravating reminder of how great Stu's return could have been.

Back in the early days of Scream's original run, the initial script for Scream 3 positioned Stu as its secret villain, a Ghostface working in the shadows having survived the injuries he sustained in the franchise's first chapter.

Now, I'm not gonna sit here and act like this doesn't sound insanely convoluted and silly, but given how mediocre Scream 3 ended up being, and how awful Stu Macher's Scream 7 was, you can surely imagine the madcap nature of this twisty reveal would have been at least fun.
