You know a special effect is on point when the actors on set freak out worse than any audience member ever could. That's exactly what happened during the filming of Alien's most infamous sequence, in which actor John Hurt's stomach gives birth to a little "chestburster" alien.

Having seemingly recovered from his meeting with an alien face-hugger, Kane (John Hurt) settles down to dinner with his fellow Nostromo shipmates. He's finally free from the grip of his new extra terrestrial buddy but he doesn't realize that he has a mischievous baby extraterrestrial growing inside of him. Seconds later, and the Xenomorph comes bursting out of his chest quite gruesomely and to the shocked dismay of his crew.

This scene is still surprising effective decades later. One should shudder to think what would happen if the film had been made today. The alien would be an ill-conceived mess of video game level CGI and the cast would all be in their early €˜20s. Not a good look.
