"Oh, good. For a moment there I thought we were in trouble." When we see Butch and the Sundance Kid in the film's final scene, it's clear that the law-breaking duo are in dire straits indeed. After being chased halfway through South America, they're stuck in a lethal stand-off with the Bolivian authorities, critically injured and vastly outnumbered. The fact that they're still quipping at each other while riddled with bullet holes is a big part of what makes the movie great. There's a very specific, sarcastic sense of humor that both characters use throughout the film, and it's sort of comforting that they don't abandon it even in the face of (let's be honest) certain death.
