Colonel Hans Landa's entrance also happens to be the first scene of Inglourious Basterds, and it does a fantastic job of setting the tone for the entire film, especially in regard to what audiences can expect from his character. He's in France, attempting to weed out any remaining Jews who might have been hidden by sympathetic friends and neighbors. Landa is quickly established as a dangerously clever man who speaks several languages fluently, enjoys playing mind games with people, and is a master of appearing affable and innocuous but being full of menace beneath the surface. He's the definition of a wolf in sheep's clothing, and the merciless way he handles the situation on the dairy farm proves that.
