We weren’t certain whether Pixar’s films counted as a franchise, but we’ve only included one on this shortlist solely since, like a lot of blockbuster franchises, we could include every entry in their cinematic CV on here because they’re all that damn good.

And with only one to choose, it’s this simple story of a father desperately trying to find his titular son after he runs away from home which stuck with us the most. Combining the poignancy of later efforts like the more mature Inside Out with the colourful and inventive action of the earlier Toy Story series, the aquatic wonderland of Finding Nemo is as beautifully realised as its moving, and often riotously funny, story.
