20 Greatest Movie Villains Of The 2000s
14. Syndrome - The Incredibles
The great comic book movies of the early 2000s largely belonged to Marvel, with the likes of Spider-Man and X-Men, but there was also a rare entry into the top shelf of superhero flicks that came neither from Marvel nor DC.
Following on from Finding Nemo, Pixar brought to life The Incredibles, a project ahead of its time in terms of how the genre would explode in the coming decade, built around a family of instantly likeable characters, and a unique story that put supers in the area of taboo and stigma long before Captain America: Civil War.
As is often the case with such films, it could have only been as good as its villain, which in this case was Jason Lee's awesome Syndrome. With a killer backstory, a real motivation, and the power to actually pull off his plan, he was more than a match for Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson) and his family.
He even played against some of the classic villain clichés, stopping himself before monologuing, before ultimately being defeated by his own cape. Both Kevin Feige and James Gunn could learn a lot from Syndrome.
