Surpassing pretty much all expectations, Jon Favreau turned in one of the year's very best films, high-grosser or not, with this spirited, gleeful and gorgeous remake of the classic Disney animation.

With a marvelous voice cast including Bill Murray as Baloo and Christopher freaking Walken as King Louie, the live-action Jungle Book turned out so much better than just about anyone could've anticipated.

Adding a layer of grit and emotion the original story (not to mention all that personality and visual grandeur), Favreau's film deepens the meaning of a flawed-but-iconic tale, reinventing it for a new generation with some eye-meltingly brilliant visual effects work. Prepare to be astonished.
