Uma Thurman re-teamed with her Pulp Fiction director Quentin Tarantino for a self-styled 'roaring rampage of revenge', a two-part saga that drew inspiration from multiple genres. As well as earning over $330m at the box office, the two volumes of Kill Bill also introduced audiences to The Bride; one of the 21st Century's most iconic characters. Both installments have their own distinct styles, but one thing they share is a stunning performance from the lead actress. Equally adept at the fight scenes as the dramatic interludes, Thurman excels with Tarantino's dialogue to create a fully-formed character dealing with themes of loss, rejection and of course, revenge. A character that could easily been depicted as a glorified killing machine instead becomes increasingly human as The Bride confronts her past in order to secure her future. Thurman was nominated for a Golden Globe for both Volume 1 and Volume 2, but failed to win either time. Genre efforts tend to be overlooked during awards season, and as a result her performance was overlooked by the majority of voting bodies. Which is a real shame as Thurman's career-best performance not only carried two movies, but delivered an incredibly layered and complex character that was equally impressive both physically and emotionally.
