The third movie, The Prisoner Of Azkaban, is the lowest-grossing entry in the franchise, pulling in "only" $796.6 million, with the next-lowest movie, prior entry The Chamber Of Secrets, making $878.9 million. It's tough to explain why the movie wasn't as commercially successful as either of the previous two movies, given that third movies typically deliver strong grosses, save perhaps for the fact that the movie's marketing touted a much darker experience than the more whimsical previous films, and this may have (temporarily) turned some audiences off. Few can argue with the immense success of this figure, though there's no doubting that Warners were a little disappointed they didn't push closer to the $900 million barrier.
